St Peregrine dedicated himself to caring for the sick and the poor. He was diagnosed with cancer of the leg at age 60. The night before his leg was to be amputated, he dragged himself to the foot of a crucifix and begged the Lord to heal him. He fell into a trance and says he saw Jesus lean down from the cross and touch his leg. When he awoke, his leg was completely healed. He is recognized as the patron of those who suffer from cancer.
