Unparalleled needs and opportunities are confronting local churches today. The ability of the local congregation to respond constructively is in direct proportion to its available resources. The resources, both individual and financial, depend upon the effectiveness of its stewardship program.
Few congregations have effective year-round programs stewardship education, tithing and planned giving. Most need help. SALT will supply that need.
SALT, through information provided by "Church stewardship & Growthcenter" will meet the needs of your church by bringing you news of what others are doing in the stewardship field, suggestions on new programs, displays, literature and training materials. It will give you and your congregation the satisfaction of more effectively meeting the needs of the work of Jesus Christ.
You can help! Share with others the ideas you have found effective.
Send you ideas to Editor SALT@Neibauer.com. Comments also appreciated.

People give not as they are able but as they are informed and inspired. One congregation did it this way:
VIGNETTES - 3 minute lay members presented word pictures on three successive Sundays during the worship service on mission or outreach projects.
SUNDAY BULLETIN SPREADS - Two additional pages were added to the 4-page Sunday bulletin. Pages 1, 2, 5, and 6 were printed as usual. Pages 3 and 4 then opened up into a 2-page spread, which featured pictures and story of still another mission project. This was used for three Sundays with a new project each week.
INCREASING COMMITMENT CARD - A commitment card suggesting increased commitment because of increased outreach program was used. Format as follows:
| Present weekly commitment |
To be increased by |
Total 2002 weekly commitment |

Going for big money? Take the viewpoint of the potential donor instead of the organization. Advantages to the donor are stressed rather than the crisis of the institution or the organization.
People give because their commitment commands it. Giving might almost be said to be a biological urge to share, to protect and to help. It is a psychological necessity concomitant with commitment. And if one of the basic reasons for giving is to satisfy the needs of the giver, then it seems to follow naturally that the basic aim of the fundraiser
should be to provide the opportunity. People really want the happy experience of giving. Their nature demands that they give; their commitment commands that they give; it remains only to ask that they give.
